Tribute to Tyler Doohan

Today, for the first and last time, Tyler Doohan rode the engine as the Can-man at South Wall Fire Rescue. Tyler is an 8 year old boy from Penfield, NY who died while trying to rescue his disabled grandfather from the burning mobile home. H…e had saved the lives of six relatives waking up to the smoke filled trailer.  He went in to his burning home one last time to rescue his grandfather and succumbed to the smoke. “He saved six people. They all would have died if he hadn’t woken up,” said Chris Ebmeyer, chief of the volunteer fire company in Penfield.   He embodies the spirit of what a true fireman is.
Rest easy little brother.

Adopt a Hydrant

The following days after the snow storm members from South Wall are pictured clearing out hydrants in our Districts. When every second counts having clear access to a fire hydrant is essential for firefighters as we respond to fires. Snow can be considered an obstruction and we would appreciate residence to be mindful of conditions of hydrants when shoveling driveways and side walks. Adopt a hydrant near you and clear a 3 foot radius around it for safety!
