BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSIONERS

TOWNSHIP OF WALL, DISTRICT NO. 3

PO BOX 542

ALLENWOOD, NJ 08710

TEL:  732-528-5969              FAX:  732-528-6377

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Subject: Career Firefighters

From: Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire District No. 3, Township of Wall

 Date: January 30, 2018

The Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire District No. 3 announces that it is in the process of adding two career firefighters to support and compliment South Wall Fire-Rescue Company No. 1’s forty man volunteer force. The addition of the two career firefighters brings the total career firefighters within the District to three. The Board’s intention in expanding career personnel is to effectively and efficiently cover emergency response during the weekday daytime hours between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. when volunteer availability is declining due to employment and other out of community commitments. Over the past several years, the Board has offered incentives and made other emergency response changes in an effort to address those times when volunteers were unavailable, all to no avail. The appointment of two additional career personnel will enable manning an engine with a crew of three which will enhance the provision of fire protection to the community with a firefighting crew operating as an intact team, thereby providing improved safety of the residents and businesses, as well as the emergency personnel within the District. The Board is hopeful to commence the manning of the engine on or before March 15, 2018. Through prudent fiscal planning, the Board has budgeted for the additional personnel in its 2018 budget with no increase to the tax rate.

It is important to mention that South Wall Fire-Rescue Company No. 1 continues to add volunteer firefighters to their active roles. The recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters remains a priority of the Board. The South Wall Fire-Rescue Company No. 1 volunteer firefighting force tirelessly trains and prepares to address fire service needs so as to effectively and efficiently maximize fire protection within the fiscal constraints of the taxpayers. These career firefighter appointments are a reflection of the Board’s and Fire Company’s commitment.

Presently, the three Districts within the Township provide mutual aid to each other upon request and have agreed to automatic response in the event of a confirmed structural fire within the Township. This will continue with the realignment of District No. 3’s emergency response. The Board has offered the other two Districts in the Township the ability to avail themselves of the daytime manned engine through a Shared Service Agreement.

The Board and Company continue to seek individuals who have a desire to serve the community as volunteer firefighters. Individuals interested in becoming volunteer firefighters are encouraged to visit the South Wall Fire-Rescue Company No. 1’s website at www.southwallfire.com to fill out an application or contact Chief John Sahatjian at chief@southwallfire.com to express their interest or to obtain additional information.

The Board continues to seek resumes for the career firefighter position. All interested individuals shall submit resumes to the Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire District No. 3, Township of Wall, P.O. Box 542 Allenwood, New Jersey 08720. For candidate qualifications and other requirements contact Chief John A. Sahatjian at the email above. No resumes will be accepted if not received on or before February 16, 2018. Mutual Aid to Manasquan

On Sunday, August 6, 2017 South Wall was requested into Manasquan for a working structure fire at Mueller’s Florist. The rescue arrived and immediately went to work to assist Manasquan and Sea Girt FD with an aggressive interior attack. Our thoughts go out to the Mueller’s Business as this was a long standing Jersey Shore Business. For more pictures and video check out our Facebook page

August 1, 2017 at approximately 5pm, the Rescue was requested with District 1 to Work out World for a reported child trapped in a turnstile. Crews arrived and found a young girl with her body wedged between the bar and the unit itself. Working together members of District 1 and 3 went through numerous plans to free the child and successfully did so after about 10 minutes of work. The child was checked out by Wall EMS and was ok. She later went to see the fire trucks at the National Night Out.
